The CW adds Osric Chau as Ryan Choi/Atom for Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover

A whole new version of the heroic Atom could be making their way into the Arrowverse in the upcoming crossover event

As Brandon Routh’s time in the Arrowverse moves closer to completion (alongside his wife Courtney Ford), the actor’s heroic role of Ray Palmer/Atom very well could have a replacement in the future. While Routh plays double duty as Atom and the Kingdom Come version of Superman in the upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, The CW is bringing another holder of the Atom title into play during the event.

As reported by TVInsider, former Supernatural actor Osric Chau will be taking on the role of Ryan Choi, a character that at times replaced and took on the Atom legacy from Palmer in the comics. While the article only mentions Chau as playing Choi and not Atom, it seems likely that the character will end up suiting up at some point.

Choi is described as ” “physics professor at Ivy Town University” and “a normal guy who learns that he has a pivotal role to play in the coming crisis on infinite earths.”

As metnioned above, Routh is set to leave DC’s Legends of Tomorrow at some point in the upcoming fifth season and it would make a lot of sense for the powers that be to use the event as a way to bring in a replacement character that can keep the Atom legacy going on the series while also bringing more representation and a fresh outlook to the series/Arrowverse.

Ryan Choi debuted in 2006, created by Grant Morrison and Gail Simone, and took over the Atom mantle as Ray Palmer was missing at the time. Choi featured in his own ongoing series for a few years before meeting an untimely fate a few years later.

When the DC Universe was rebooted in 2011, into the New 52, Ryan didn’t show up but eventually when the universe was sort of relaunched and changed up to bring back aspects of the comics line from before the reboot with DC Rebirth, Ryan returned wearing a suit like Routh’s from The CW shows as part of the new Justice League of America in 2017.

Crises on Infinite Earth’s stretches across Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, Batwoman and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow with three of the five episodes ariing in mid-December and the last two held off till shows return in mid-January.
