DC Comics’ new Birds of Prey moves to Black Label in 2020

The adventures of Harley Quinn, Huntress & Black Canary leap into the more adult line beginning in 2020

Changes are on the way for DC Comics’ Birds of Prey in the coming year. After previously announcing a new series starring Huntress, Black Canary and Harley Quinn earlier this year that was set to come out pretty soon from Brian Azzarello and Emanuela Lupacchino , the publisher has announced a pretty big shift.

As shared by Previews World, the series is being shifted out of the main DC line into the more adult DC Black Label line with the orders for the first two solicited issues being canceled. The publisher is set to re-solicit them and moving the release date into 2020 so that the book matches up with the timing of The Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn film.

This change comes also with a new cover by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado including a new logo that seems to tie closer to the film’s logo.

Whether this change will mean an overhaul to the planned storyline is unclear, but it seems likely that the story would change now that it’s part of a lable that allows more in a story. The original solicitations and covers are below.

BIRDS OF PREY #1
written by BRIAN AZZARELLO
art and cover by EMANUELA LUPACCHINO and RAY McCARTHY
card stock variant cover by J. SCOTT CAMPBELL
blank variant cover
Black Canary’s life has spiraled out of control: her personal life is going through the ringer and her band is in crisis when an old flame resurfaces only to flicker out and set her on an all-new mission against an all-new opponent. The only thing she can be grateful for is the fact that she’s not alone, as Huntress finds herself on a collision course with Black Canary’s quarry at Detective Montoya’s urging. Meanwhile, Harley Quinn has resurfaced outside of Gotham City and out of the Suicide Squad, with a new lease on life that is sure to make everyone else’s life more complicated. And that’s only the first five pages.
Needless to say, the Birds are back in town! With more pressure and higher stakes than they have ever faced before, brought to you by hard-boiled superstar writer Brian Azzarello and the bombshell art team of Emanuela Lupacchino and Ray McCarthy.
