Marvel Studios’ Externals adds Kit Harrington, Gemma Chan & Barry Keoghan to cast

The Externals cast grows as two former Comic book Avengers characters and a villain enter the picture for the Marvel film

During San Diego Comic Con, Marvel Studios laid out a lot of their upcoming docket from big screen films to shows on Disney+ that tie inot that film universe. One of those films was the Externals, starring the ancient Marvel characters, that had quite a star studded cast already.

After various rumors surfaced online, during the Disney D-23 Conference it was made official that Gemma Chan (who played Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel) and Kit Harrington are part of the cast playing the characters of the External hero Sersi and the non-External Dane Whitman (also known as the Black Knight) respectively. Also joining the cast is Barry Keoghan playing the villainous External known as Druig.

Immortal beings created by the universal entities known as the Celestials, the Externals were one of many Jack Kirby creations in the Marvel Universe. Their presence and prominance in the comics has shifted back and forth over the years.

Sersi and Whitman though not only have both served as Avengers together, mostly in the 90s, but were characters that had a very dramaitc at times romantic relationship. Whether that plays into the film is unknown.

Directed by Chloé Zhao, the film also stars Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh and Angelina Jolie as Thena. The film opens in theaters on November 6, 2020.
