Ewan McGregor is reportedly returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi for Disney+ series

The former Jedi Master might rise once more to take his place among a growing Star Wars streaming universe

After many years of fleeting reports, rumors born and rumors dashed, and enough speculation to fill a couple Death Stars it could be official at last: Ewan McGregor could be returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

According to Deadline, the Scottish actor is reportedly set to repise the role of the Jedi master for a brand new Disney+, the company’s streaming platform, series. There are no details around the potential show, but it seems likely that the series will likely deal with some period in the around 20 years that Kenobi was living on Tatooine watching over Luke.

That was the type of film or show that rumors were pointing at all these years, even talk of Logan director James Mangold being attached to a potential project in the past.

McGregor of course inherited the role from Alec Guinness who played the role in the original Star Wars: A New Hope and reprised the role, in a ghostly form, for the two sequels in that trilogy. All three of the prequel films had McGregor playing the Jedi alongside Liam Neeson in the first and Hayden Christianson in the latter two, and he even had a voice cameo during a scene in Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015.

The actor has made no secret that he wants to return to the role, and as he’s now 48 he’s nicely within the realm of about what age one could ascribe to Obi-Wan in that time period if they figure Guinesses’ actual age of 63 while filming akin to what Kenobi’s age might be.

If this series comes to fruition it will join the Jon Favreau led The Mandalorian series and the currently untitled Rogue One prequel with Diego Luna reprising the role of Cassian Andor as live-action Star Wars properties on the streaming platform.

Disney+ provides Disney and their various branches from Marvel to Lucasfilm to Pixar & the rest to branch off and do more with their various worlds, characters, franchises or such off the big screen.
