Marvel Comics reveals the lead of their July launching Valkyrie series

A new version of the Asgardian character will rise this summer in the aftermath of War of the Realms

During the recent Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo, aka C2E2, it was revealed that Jason Aaron was joining Al Ewing, Cafu and others (including Mahmud Asrar and Matthew Wilson on covers) for a brand new Valkyrie ongoing series. Till now much including the series lead character was kept secret.

Now Marvel has revealed the new Valkyrie, and that reveal comes with some spoilers for the Aaron written War of the Realms 02 which just came out. Skip past the photo if you want to know the spoilers.

Valkyrie Cropped

As shown in the second issue of the event and revealed on, Jane Foster, who once held the mantle of Thor in the very recent past, is taking on the mantle of Valkyrie as she dives back into her very own series beginning in July.

“At the end of WAR OF THE REALMS #2, the Valkyries are dead. And Valhalla is gone,” Ewing said to “Because without at least one warrior taking on the role and the name of Valkyrie, there can be no Valhalla. And, obviously, the fact that we have a new VALKYRIE comic coming out means that someone does take up that mantle… and it’s someone a lot of readers have been waiting to see in action again — Jane Foster!”

Along with this new title, Jane will also have a brand new weapon to use during her Asgardian adventures. Adventures that will be different than what the previous Valkyries have dealt with.

“It’s not like the old Valkyrie. Brunhilde is available for consultation occasionally, but she no longer belongs to the world of the living — so Jane’s mostly on her own,” Ewing said. “That said, she does have something not seen before in the world of Asgard — UNDRJARN THE ALL-WEAPON, forged in the fires of the Realm-War, that can change its shape and be whatever the wielder needs — including wings! Which doesn’t necessarily mean no more flying horse, but I’m getting ahead of myself…”

Jane’s brand new series roles out this July as will a brand new series for Loki that was also recently announced.
