Conan the Barbarian joins some of Marvel Comic’s deadliest for the all-new Savage Avengers

Conan, Elektra, Venom and more come together as a much darker version of the Avengers

Earth’s mightiest heroes come together time and time again under the banner of the Avengers, ready to step up to save the world from any threat that comes the planet’s way. Sometimes though, there are threats that are beyond those heroes because they require certain methods they would not employ.

That’s when you call the Savage Avengers.

Marvel Comics will team-up some of their deadliest heroes/anti-heroes this summer in the newly announced Savage Avengers series from Gerry Duggan & Mike Deodato which spins out of the currently running Avengers: No Road Home series. This team features the assassin Elektra, the brutal vigilante the Punisher, the magical Doctor Voodoo, the symbiotic Venom, the X-Men’s recently returned clawed brawler Wolverine and the recently returned to Marvel Conan the Barbarian.

“We envisioned a threat, a magical green zone where the evil wizards of Conan’s world are trading spells with The Hand in Japan,” Duggan told Entertainment Weekly. “Conan is on a very Conan-like mission; he’s heard a tale of an amulet so he’s chasing it, and the evil magic sorcerers are doing something that would be a Marvel Avengers problem. It feels like we have found some very fertile ground that is a Venn diagram between those two worlds.”

This isn’t the only place Duggan is handling Conan, as the writer is also part of the creative team on the barbarian’s second ongoing series The Savage Sword of Conan which just recently launched.

SAVAGE AVENGERS is just what it says on the label—it’s all of the biggest badasses of the Marvel Universe brought together uneasily in one explosive series—and with Conan as a wild card,” SVP and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort told “It’s big, it’s brash, it’s explosive, it never slows down—the only scenes in SAVAGE AVENGERS that involve a table is when somebody is being thrown through one.”

This series debuts in May following a 10-page story featuring the team that will be part of the FCBD Avengers issue dropping on Free Comic Book Day which is May 4.
