After years of waiting and wondering, Vertigo Comics award winning comic series will finally be adapted in 2020.

Y The Last Man

Prepare yourselves, the apocalypse is coming to FX in 2020. After years and years of various projects (both film & television) the long in development adaptation of Brian K Vaughn & Pia Guerra’s Y: The Last Man has been given a series order by the network announced by Nick Grad & Eric Schrier Presidents of Original Programming, FX Networks, and FX Productions, according to Deadline.

Diane Lane is set to lead the ensemble cast with Barry Keoghan, Imogen Poots, Lashana Lynch, Juliana Canfield, Marin Ireland, and Amber Tamblyn rounding out that cast.

Y: The Last Man is a comic book series that features a virus that wipes out all males (both human and animal) on the planet leaving only one man, Yorick Brown (Keoghan), and his monkey Ampersand and a world full of women. As the world shifts and moves to adapt to the loss of a giant swath of the population, Yorick must be ferried across the country and world by the mysterious Agent 355 (Lynch) as the search for a cure or a way to keep the human race reproducing begins.

Y: The Last Man is a towering achievement among graphic novel storytelling and it’s been rewarding to work with this outstanding team,” said Grad. “Michael Green and Aïda Mashaka Croal have partnered with Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson to deliver a stunning new expression of this fascinating and timely story. Melina Matsoukas, who directed the pilot, did an incredible job bringing it to life with Diane Lane and this stellar cast.”

FX has been working on the project for years but executive producer, writer and co-showrunner Michael Green, Aïda Mashaka Croal is the other co-showrunner & co-creator of the series, became very busy with projects like Starz American GodsBefore FX though there were rumors years ago that the film was set to potentially be a big screen project.

“Brian and Pia’s exploration of a world without men is a favorite for its depth, its humor, its insights and its monkey,” said Croal and Green. “Adapted today it offers us a cracked mirror to look at our own very cracked world. We thank them for their trust — we thank FX for their support — and we thank the casting gods for letting us work with this incredible group of actors.”

The new series debuts in 2020.
