Ewan McGregor reportedly in talks to play Bird of Prey’s villain Black Mask

McGregor could bring life to the sadistic ebony mask wearing Gotham City mob boss for the 2020 ensemble film

Birds of Prey

Ewan McGregor is preparing to potentially go to the dark side, the really really dark side. That’s because the actor has his eye on becoming a DC Comics’ Gotham City villain.

That villain is the Batman/Gotham related villain Black Mask for the upcoming Birds of Prey film, as according to The Wrap he is in final negotiations for the role.

Black Mask, real name Roman Sionis, is a brutal and sadistic Gotham City mob boss with a penchant for masks, especially the black mask he got his name from, and is the leader of a group known as the False Face Society. The character was created by Doug Moench and Tom Mandrake in 1995’s Batman #386.

McGregor joins Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Black Canary), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Huntress) and potentially Rosie Perez (Renee Montoya). Reportedly the film will also include Cassandra Cain aka Orphan (also a former Batgirl) but no casting has been reported.

The Cathy Yan directed film opens on February 7, 2020.
