After a string of teaser images, the full roster for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy comic book relaunch headed by Geoff Shaw & Donny Cates has come one step closer to being revealed. Previously, the images made it seem to be that there would be a much larger team of Guardians going forward, but that’s not the case.
Current Guardian’s member Groot, the Silver Surfer, the powerful Adam Warlock and the Guardians usual leader Star-Lord join the alternate future Frank Castle/Cosmic Ghost Rider, Beta Ray Bill, Moondragon, the Shi’ar Magestrix Gladiator, the Richard Rider version of Nova, his fellow former teenage hero Darkhawk, and the former Captain Marvel & Quasar Phyla-Vell as possible members of the cosmic team. This image also comes with the caption “Six of these cosmic heroes will be the new Guardians of the Galaxy,” making it unclear who actually will rise to protect the Galaxy in the aftermath of Infinity Wars.
While this is a very powerful line-up to choose from that will change the series up greatly, it is disappointing that out of all the cosmic characters or cosmic related characters to play with the resulting choices are very very very overly male heavy. With Moondragon and Phyla-Vell as the only women that might seemingly be on the team.
Technically that could be one step past the previous Guardians team, if both characters make it to the final team, which had Gamora as the only woman on the team, but there was so much room to improve with this new series.
The universe is on fire. Hundreds of worlds are at war. Never has there been such hatred and division across the cosmos. And in spite of all this, Thanos of Titan is still dead…or is he? Now, more than ever, the cosmos needs the Guardians of the Galaxy…but in the aftermath of the Infinity Wars, who is left to answer the call? Featuring every cosmic Super Hero in the known universe, a new adventure is set to begin.
Guardians of the Galaxy arrives in 2019.
