DC Universe is coming into New York Comic Con swinging as they have debuted a whole bunch of new information about their upcoming animated Harley Quinn series, one of six original series planned for the streaming platform in the months to come.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco has been cast in the lead role of Harley Quinn as the villain and sometimes anti-hero seeks to reinvent herself following a break-up with the villainous Joker. Cuoco will also serve as an executive producer for the series.
She’ll be joined by Lake Bell, Alan Tudyk, Ron Funches, JB Smoove, Jason Alexander, Wanda Sykes, Giancarlo Esposito, Natalie Morales, Jim Rash, Diedrich Bader, Tony Hale and Chris Meloni who will all round out the cast for this series. Who they all will play is unknown at this point, though Bader is clearly reprising his Batman: The Brave and the Bold role of Batman as made evident in the teaser that DC dropped at NYCC too.
Originally there were reports that Margot Robbie, who plays the live action version of Harley in films, was going to provide Harley’s voice for the series but she had to pass on the project.
The teaser gets right to the heart of most of Harley’s most recent appearances and comic series, the fourth wall breaking and meta humor which is all on display as she and Poison Ivy call out the DC films gritty nature as well as make a swipe at fellow comedic antihero character Deadpool.
DC Universe launched on September 15 and Titans, the first of the six original shows, is set to debut on October 12. There is no word on when Harley will debut though it’s likely not till sometime in 2019.
