Warner Bros. Todd Phillips directed and Joaquin Phoenix starring Joker film takes the focus off the caped crusader and places it upon his archnemesis the clown prince of crime. Despite that, the Wayne family still has a part to play in the story.
According to Deadline, Alec Baldwin is joining the cast of the film ahead of its September 10th production start date in a supporting role, reportedly that of Doctor Thomas Wayne the father of Bruce Wayne. Thomas has been played or voiced by many many actors over the years that Batman stories have been adapted but very rarely if ever is that much time spent with the character before he meets an untimely end in a dark alley alongside his wife and leaving behind a mentally scarred son who goes on to become a dark vigilante in Gotham City.
Baldwin joins Phoenix and a cast that features Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron and Zazie Beetz. The film is disconnected from the other Joker related films that are reportedly in the works as part of the DC shared universe of films, this gritty origin story with an 80’s style stands alone.
Joker opens on October 4, 2019.
