In 2019, DC Entertainment will spend a year celebrating Batman’s 80th anniversary

DC Comics' celebration of their caped crusader will include the release of the 1000th issue of Detective Comics

In 2019 Gotham City’s caped crusader turns the big 8-0 and DC Comics is throwing a year-long celebration for the crime-fighting octogenarian. This celebration will include the release of the milestone 1000th issue of Detective Comics, a long journey from Bill Finger and Bob Kane’s March 1939 Detective Comics #27 story that brought Batman to life.

 

Peter J. Tomasi and Doug Mahnke were previously announced as taking up the Detective Comics reigns with issue #994 with a path straight into issue #1000 and beyond. Alongside them, Tom King and a slew of artists will continue their run of Batman as the writer recently confirmed his run will take him up to issue #103 of the series which isn’t that far away with the book’s double shipping schedule.

Other details about this year-long celebration are light at the moment, with more to come in the next few months.

Alongside the 2019 announcement was the announcement of the fifth annual Batman Day celebration which falls on September 15 this year. With Batman themed events at retailers, bookstores, schools and libraries around the world along with free copies of the first chapters of Batman: White Knight and Batman: A Lot of Li’L Gotham along with a digital sale of Batman comics from September 7-11 on ReadDC.com, ComiXology, Google Play, Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook and iTunes
