As expected, the third trailer for Sony’s Venom has debuted to show off more of the symbiotic title character as well as give glimpses at the other symbiotic antagonists he’ll face off against.
This new glance at the Marvel anti-hero that will potentially begin Sony’s Spider-Man related Spider-Manless (he’s part of the MCU right now of course) universe of films, shows that the no Spider-Man thing is being followed through on as Venom’s symbiote look has been updated to have no influence from Spider-Man unlike the comics. In this world there is no Spider-Man to get the symbiote first and for it to model itself after him once he’s separated from it.
That also means that Eddie Brock’s story is changed as he’s not getting fired because of Peter Parker, later being around when Peter breaks free from the symbiote to, therefore, become Venom. Gaining the symbiote in a much different way this time around.
Based upon the 1993 miniseries Venom: Lethal Protector, the trailer gives what appears to be the first look at two of the symbiotes created in that miniseries that will face off against Venom. Those symbiotes are Riot, Scream, Agony, Lasher, and Phage with there being rumors and thoughts that Venom’s symbiote offspring Carnage might play some part in the film.
Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Venom stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Scott Haze, Reid Scott and Riz Ahmed. It opens on October 05.
