*Spoilers for Season Five of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ahead, turn back now to avoid*
While fans will have to wait quite a bit longer to find out if he’ll be in front of the camera once more, they can breathe some relief to know that Clark Gregg isn’t quite done with Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. yet.
As confirmed by Marvel on Twitter, Gregg will return for the sixth season of the superhero/spy/action series as a director for the first episode titled “Missing Pieces.” Whether he’ll return as Coulson or not is unclear though because the series won’t be returning to ABC until summer of 2019 so that it arrives following the events of Avengers 4 in May.
At the end of season five the Ghost Rider deal that took away the Kree drugs that helped return him to life after Avengers took it’s toll and Coulson left the team to live out his remaining days in the magical place known as Tahiti with Agent Melinda May by his side.
Producers have been cagey about if Coulson will actually pass away or if there will be something that ends up saving him enough to return for season six, but in his absence, it was Henry Simmon’s Mack that was tapped as the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. going forward.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns in summer 2019.
