*Spoilers for Season Five of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ahead, turn back now to avoid*
Despite seemingly disappearing at the end of season five, turns out the time-tossed future character that is Deke isn’t finished on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. quite yet. Marvel announced that Deke actor Jeff Ward has officially been promoted to a series regular for season six.
Originally just a character the S.H.I.E.L.D. crew met while trapped in the future, Deke later turned out to be the grandson of Fitz and Simmons. His existence was in question once the crew figured out a way to potentially avert the cataclysmic future they had witnessed. After the version of Fitz that slept for 80 years to travel to the future to rescue his friends met his tragic end at the end of season five, it threw an even bigger question mark behind Deke’s existence.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns in the summer of 2019 for a shorter 13-episode season, keeping the show off the air till after fans find out what happens to the entire MCU in May’s Avengers 4.
