Get ready to wade back into the jungle next holiday season but watch out for blasters and lightsabers along the way. After confirming previously that the film was underway, a release date for the untitled Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sequel has been revealed and pits it against a big-time franchise.
Series star and producer Dwayne Johnson took to Twitter to reveal that the Jumanji sequel will hit theaters on December 13, 2019, which will put it out a week before Disney & Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Episode IX. This date is no surprise as previously Sony Pictures Chairman Tom Rothman promised a sequel for the 2019 holiday season.

Officially planting our JUMANJI flag. On DECEMBER 13th, 2019 – the game is not over. I hold JUMANJI very close to my heart and I’m beyond grateful you made our movie into the global juggernaut ($1BILLION+) it became. Can’t wait for you to see what our new adventure & new characters have in store as Christmas comes early. And once again, I get to slap @kevinhart4real’s lip’s into next week. The world is happy. #FearTheDrums #TheGameIsNotOver #JUMANJI DECEMBER 13th, 2019
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was a major hit for Sony, the highest grossing film in the studio’s history, making the call for a sequel a pretty easy one for the higher-ups. Not much is known about this sequel yet other than Johnson’s return as Doctor Smolder Bravestone and the high likelihood that his co-stars Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Jack Black and Nick Jonas will return as well.
