Ahead of their upcoming San Diego Comic Con panel for the show, Nickelodeon has unleashed the opening title sequence for their brand new 2D animated Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. A catchy new intro song plays while the opening shows off the new Turtle designs in action with their new weapons & new roles (Raphael is the leader now over Leonardo) along with what could be some new villains they will face in the show along with a glimpse at their new ride.
This is Nickelodeon’s second animated series from the franchise with the 2012 launching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles recently wrapping up with its fifth season.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles promises to turn a lot of things on their head when it comes to the Turtles lore. This time around all four of the turtles will actually be different breeds of Turtles (snapping, red-eared slider, soft-shelled and box) and Raphael will be the oldest brother and the leader rather than Leonardo, as mentioned above.
Weapons will also change as Raph turns in his sais to carry twin tonfas, Leo takes up an ōdachi sword, Donatello gets a tech-enhanced bo staff and Mikey takes up a kusari-fundo. April O’Neil will also be African-American this go around and the turtles will rock some magical powers in their battle to save New York City and a mystical city underneath it, a glimpse of Raph’s power can be seen in the intro.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stars Omar Miller as Raph, Ben Schwartz as Leonardo, Josh Brener as Donatello, Brandon Mychal Smith as Michelangelo, Kat Graham as April, Eri Bauza as Master Splinter and John Cena as Baron Draxum. The series will debut a 26-episode first season later this year.
