After being on the bubble as other shows were either getting renewed or axed left and right, the fate of the Jim Gordon led Batman prequel series are now revealed.
According to Deadline, Gotham will indeed return next fall for its fifth season but this will be the final season for the series. Reportedly the series might be held back till midseason and the final season will focus on the final steps of Bruce Wayne’s transformation into the dark knight.
Producers said: ““The fifth and final season will wrap up this unique origin story of the great DC Comics Super-villains and vigilantes, which revealed an entirely new chapter that has never been told.”
Starting as a police procedural series with Jim Gordon at the lead and Bruce Wayne just losing his parents, the show has taken on a new life over the years with each season diving more and more into the various criminal rogues that will one day fight Batman. Penguin, Riddler, Mister Freeze, Poison Ivy, Ra al Ghul and even multiple proto-Jokers have plagued the city across the four seasons.
A final episode order for the season has not been confirmed yet, leaving it unclear if the final season will be a shorter or full one. After moving to Thursdays this season, it’s fifth season home is uncertain at the moment as the rest of the schedule will determine where and when Gotham can be fit in.
