Todd McFarlane & Blumhouse Productions R-rated low-budget film reboot of Spawn, McFarlane’s creation for Image Comics, had been reportedly expected to begin shooting this month. So far though no casting for the film has been announced.
That might soon change.
According to The Hashtag Show, Jamie Foxx, who has been lobbying for this role for years, has reportedly been offered the lead role of Al Simmons/Spawn for the upcoming reboot. Michael Jai White played the role in the 1997 film version.
Foxx has not officially signed on for the role, how quickly or slowly he makes this decision will ultimately decide how quickly the project moves forward. McFarlane and Blumhouse are said to still be hoping to secure a release date for sometime in 2019.
Should Foxx take the role, he won’t be the only lead for the film. In this reboot Simmon’s family will not play a role as they did in the 1997 film, instead, the other lead role will center around Detective Twitch Williams, an NYPD homicide detective, who will be working alongside Spawn in the new film. Twitch is another McFarlane comic book creation who starred alongside his partner Sam Burke first in the Spawn comic book series before getting their own spinoff series in the 90s called Sam and Twitch.
