Last month, DC Comics celebrated the 80th birthday of Superman with the release of the massive milestone 1000th issue of Action Comics featuring stories from a swath of writers, artist, colorists, inkers, etc displaying their love for the last son of Krypton. This fall, that celebration continues.
DC announced the release of Action Comics #1000 Deluxe Edition a massive hardcover book featuring the milestone issue along with unreleased scripts, sketches, and more.
“We were blown away by the response to ACTION COMICS #1000, and we wanted to gather together even more behind the scenes material such as sketches, scripts, etc. so fans can take a peek inside this historic release,” said DC Publisher Jim Lee. “This is not only a must-have for any Superman fan but also any fan of comics, entertainment or pop culture.”
The deluxe hardcover includes all eighty pages from the issue featuring stories by Brian Michael Bendis, Jim Lee, Dan Jurgens, Norm Rapmund, Peter J. Tomasi, Patrick Gleason, Tom King, Clay Mann, Geoff Johns, Richard Donner, Oliver Coipel, Brad Meltzer, John Cassaday, Laura Martin, Marv Wolfman, Curt Swan, Louise Simonson, Jerry Ordway and more. It also features a gallery of 18 retailer variants and eight-decade themed variants, scripts for each of the stories, side by side panel/page comparisons for the Peter J. Tomasi/Patrick Gleason story, the original art for Marv Wolfman & Curt Swan’s story, Paul Levitz and Neal Adams story from Action Comics: 80 Years of Superman, design sketches from Jim Lee and complete reprints of 1938’s Action Comics #1 and #2.
This edition releases in comic book stores on September 26 and bookstores on October 2, for the suggested retail price of $19.99.
