Back in 2017, after well over fifteen years away from the franchise, Vin Diesel returned as the extreme-sports athlete turned spy Xander Cage. Now Diesel and director D.J. Caruso are teaming up once more for xXx 4.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, not only will Diesel return to star in the sequel but he and his One Race Films production company teamed up with finance & production company The H Collective to purchase the rights to the franchise from Revolution Studios, making Diesel a co-owner of one of the franchises that helped cement him as an action star in the early 2000s.

The XxX series debuted in 2005 with Diesel in the lead role alongside Samuel L. Jackson and others, before he decided to leave the series behind ahead of 2005’s sequel XxX: State of the Union which replaced him with a character played by Ice Cube.

Already an influential executive producer in the highly successful Fast and Furious series he’s been part of for the most part since 2001, Diesel also is the owner of the rights to the Riddick/Pitch Black franchise after acquiring the rights from Universal as part of the deal to return to them for the Fast and Furious films.

Production is reportedly set to begin on the film in December.
