Currently, all eyes are turned towards the massive team-up of heroes that is this month’s Avengers: Infinity War, but this summer another smaller but equally as important team-up will be happening again. Power Man and Iron Fist are together again.
A new official image from Marvel’s Luke Cage season two, shared by Empire, features Mike Colter’s Luke Cage standing side by side with fellow hero and Defender Danny Rand/Iron Fist played by Finn Jones. Standing together, bathed in purple light, the heroes are not wearing costumes of any kind, though Cage does have his signature black and yellow hoodie, looking like they are ready to take on some sort of threat.
While nothing is known about Luke Cage‘s new season, the fact that Jones is in the show as Iron Fist will no doubt further fan beliefs that we’ll be seeing some sort of move towards the comic book style Heroes for Hire grouping at some point in the future. Iron Fist has a second season of his own in the works, no doubt set to arrive in 2019, and what’s after that and the third season of Daredevil and second season of The Punisher is quite unknown.
Lately, there are rumors & reports that a second season of The Defenders isn’t likely, which leaves room for more solo seasons or even a Heroes For Hire proper series. What complicates that though is the fact that by 2019 Disney will have their own streaming platform up and running and they might decide to bring their work with Netflix to a close and pursue other superhero TV endeavors on their own platform.
Marvel’s Luke Cage stars Colter, Simone Missick, Alfre Woodard, Theo Rossi, Rosario Dawson, Mustafa Shakir and Gabrielle Dennis. The entire season arrives on June 22.
