While superhero stories are popular as ever, the new trend that has gained popularity is prequel series focused on times before famous heroes become the heroes we know. Following Gotham and the upcoming Krypton, another new series focused on Metropolis is on the way.
According to Deadline, the aptly named Metropolis from Gotham executive producers John Stephens and Danny Cannon and Warner Bros. TVis a drama series set to focus on Lois Lane and Lex Luthor in the years before Superman arrives as “they investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city’s dark and bizarre secrets.”
Warner Bros. has already given the show a 13-episode straight to series order to air on their upcoming digital platform, with plans for production to begin later this year for a 2019 premiere.
This is the second prequel series related to Superman as SyFy’s Krytpon focuses on his home planet decades before Kal-El’s birth with his grandfather Seg-El in the spotlight trying to save his world and the future that his grandson will be part of.
Metropolis will join the Titans series and the returning animated Young Justice as the new shows that Warner Bros. is using to anchor their still currently unnamed streaming platform expected to launch later this year.
