Kid Flash officially joins the Legends of Tomorrow in first look photo

After being sidelined most of The Flash's fourth season, Kid Flash is ready to board the Waverider.

Since the beginning of season four last fall, Keiynan Lonsdale’s Wally West/Kid Flash has been absent the majority of the time on The Flash. He was there to help when Barry was trapped in the Speed Force but as soon as Barry was back he was dumped by Jesse Quick and then ran off to Blue Valley to find himself, only showing up a few times.

Now that he’s been displaced from the series (mostly because of the budget cost of adding Ralph Dibny/Elongated Man to the cast), the second speedster has finally found a new home. After numerous teases, it’s now been officially confirmed that Wally is set to join the crew of the Waverider in the second half of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow‘s third season when it returns next month.

Series star Nick Zano, who plays Nate Heywood/Citizen Steel, shared the first look at Lonsdale in costume for the series alongside Maisie Richardson-Sellers’ Amaya/Vixen. At the beginning of the season when the Legends were separated Heywood and West had formed a partnership as they battled crime in Central City.

Wally will be taking the vacancies on the crew made by the loss of the two halves of the heroic Firestorm, as Professor Martin Stein (Victor Garber) died heroically during the Crisis on Earth X crossover last year and Jefferson “Jax” Jackson (Franz Drameh) left the team in the aftermath to try and live his life and find himself again.

This move not only gives the team a speedster and a new engineer, now that Jax is no longer on board, but also will allow Wally to have the same space to spread his wings and develop that characters like Sara Lance/White Canary (Caity Lotz), Ray Palmer/Atom (Brandon Routh) and Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell) among others received once they were out of the shadows of Green Arrow and the Flash when they were supporting cast on those other shows.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow returns on Monday, February 12 taking over the timeslot from Supergirl to finish out its final nine episodes of the season, before Supergirl returns.
