Prepare to experience the DC Universe through a different set of eyes.

DC Comics has announced that Oscar-winning screenwriter John Ridley (12 Years a Slave, Let It Fall) will write a brand new miniseries titled The Other History of the DC Universe which will explore iconic moments from the comics through the perspective of heroes that come from traditionally disenfranchised groups. Heroes including Green Lantern John Stewart, Vixen, Supergirl, Katana, Rene Montoya, Extraño of the Global Guardians and more.

“I could not be more excited by the opportunity to excavate the canon of the DC Universe through a vast array of characters who’ve earned their seat at the table,” explains Ridley.  “I’m very impressed with DC’s commitment to making their history as reverent and urgent as it is engaging and entertaining for all its many fans.”

This new series will not focus on heroes saving the world but will focus more on their lives outside of the costumes and their encounters with real-world issues. Ridley has worked on comics previously including The Authority: Human on the Inside, Warblade, and his current Vertigo/DC Comics series The American Way: Those Above and Those Below.

More information about the project will come to light during DC’s “The Many Shades of Heroism: DC Heroes Through the African-American Lens panel during their DC in D.C. event on January 13. The panel will be streamed on the DC YouTube Channel at 11 a.m. EST.

The Other History of the DC Universe is slated to arrive in Winter 2018.
