Brian Michael Bendis departs Marvel and signs exclusively with DC Comics

No it’s no April Fools Day come late. After spending pretty much most of the new century as a writer on many huge Marvel Comics properties, Brian Michael Bendis is making the leap to the distinguished competition.

Announced on Twitter and collaborated by Bendis, the prolific comic book writer will be leaving Marvel Comics in order to take on a “multiyear, multi-faceted deal” exclusive contract with DC Comics.

What he’ll be doing with DC title wise and how long he’ll be working to wrap up Marvel work is unknown. Bendis has made it clear over the years how far in advance he works on titles meaning he likely already turned his final scripts into Marvel so books with his name will be coming out still while he moves over to the other side.

“This is real. I love you all. Change is good. Change is healthy,” Bendis said in his tweet. “I am bursting with ideas and inspirations. Details to come! Stay tuned!”

In his time at Marvel Bendis worked on everything from disassembled & reassembled the Avengers, revealed the identity of Daredevil & handled the aftermath, brought the original five X-Men forward in time, began Cyclops’ revolution and handled the adventures of the Ultimate Universe Spider-Man (both Peter and the Bendis co-created Miles Morales) all the way from that universes beginning in 2000 to it’s end in 2015 and into the present day.
