Fast and the Furious fans have to wait till 2020 to see further adventures of the family team, thanks to a Dwayne Johnson & Jason Statham spinoff taking it’s place in 2019, but that delay could be a benefit. Some familiar faces could be making a return with the next entry of the series.
As revealed by series star and executive producer Vin Diesel in a Facebook Live video, former director Justin Lin, who sat out the last two films in order to work on Star Trek Beyond, is set to return to the franchise he helped revive as the director of both Fast and Furious 9 and Fast and the Furious 10. Lin first directed The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift before taking on Fast and Furious, Fast Five and Fast and Furious 6 with the last two being part of a trilogy that helped propel the series to new heights & far bigger box office numbers.
Diesel also revealed that after sitting out the eighth film Jordana Brewster is also set to make a return to the franchise with the upcoming ninth film.
Fate of the Furious earlier in the year kicked off what is being billed as the final trilogy of the franchise set to end with the 10th film in 2021 or 2022 if it gets pushed back because of the ninth films delay. It seems fitting that Lin would be brought back to complete the finales of the franchise that he helped resurrect.
