Fox and director Josh Boone are planning to kick off Friday the 13th in a pretty big way. Taking to his Instagram, Boone posted an image foretelling the late night debut of the first trailer for still in production New Mutants.
Boone captioned the image “there’s something new to fear” alongside hashtags for New Mutants and Friday the 13th.
Based upon the early run of the comic series from Chris Claremont, Bob McLeod and Bill Sienkiewicz, New Mutants is said to feature five mutant teens that are learning to deal with their superpowers and must escape from the secret facility where they are being held against their will. The nightmare creature known as the Demon Bear, who appeared in many of those early New Mutants issues, is said to be one of the main antagonists within the film.
Boone previously described the spinoff as a horror film, with no supervillains or superhero costumes.
Opening on April 13, 2018, New Mutants stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin/Magik, Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane, Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie/Cannonball, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar/Mirage and Alice Braga as Doctor Cecilia Reyes.
