The Tom Hardy led and Ruben Fleischer directed Venom film is set to be the first film in a shared universe of Spider-Man related characters from Sony Pictures, and the studio has their sights set on adding another actor before production begins sometime this month.
According to Variety, Parks and Recreation alum Jenny Slate is currently in talks to join the film. Reportedly the role Slate is looking at is for a scientist.
Slate would join Michelle Williams, who was also reportedly in talks recently, and Riz Ahmed alongside Hardy for the film that will feature the symbiote powered anti-hero that has long been a foe and some time ally to Spider-Man.
Because of their deal with Marvel that lets Spider-Man appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, these shared universe films of Sony will all not feature the web swinging hero in any capacity. That could change in the future if at some point Sony does not renegotiate their deal with Marvel, which reportedly only covers three Spider-Man solo films and three appearance in other Marvel films, but for now he’s essentially off limits for Venom.
Hardy’s Venom film will be followed by the Black Cat & Silver Sable featuring Silver and Black in this new Sony’s Marvel Universe set of films.
Venom arrives on October 5, 2018.
