When it hit stands this week, Marvel Comics has promised the return of a big name character for their Marvel Legacy #1 one-shot that kicks off the Marvel Legacy era at the publisher.
With the issue just two days away from arriving, the news has been spilled as to who is back. If you truly do not want to know ahead of time now is the time to turn back.
As revealed to Comicbook.com, the big character set to return is the original Marvel Universe Wolverine who died all the way back in 2014 during the aptly named Death of Wolverine mini-series. He doesn’t come back alone though as he’ll have one of the most powerful artifacts in the universe along with him, an Infinity Stone.
“Yes, Logan is back from the dead,” Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso told ComicBook.com. “After three years of a Logan-free Marvel Universe, Logan is back, claws popped and ready for action. How he came back, why he came back, and just how he came into possession of that Infinity Stone are part of a fascinating story that’s going to unveil soon, and in some unusual places.”
While Alonso says it has been a Logan free universe, that isn’t entirely true. Since Secret Wars ended in 2015 the alternate reality version of Logan known as Old Man Logan has been running around the Marvel Universe with his own solo series and as part of the X-Men.
What this means for Old Man Logan or even for Laura Kinney the former X-23 that has been running around as Wolverine since Secret Wars ended is unknown. Also Logan’s alternate universe son Jimmy Hudson is running around with the X-Men Blue team and his son Daken has been around Bobby Drake in Iceman and is set to appear in All-New Wolverine during Marvel Legacy.
How all the clawed heroes running around will react to or interact with the returned Logan will be seen as things more forward.
As he’s in possession of an Infinity Stone and the Guardians of the Galaxy will be searching for those when Marvel Legacy begins, it seems likely Logan’s story will connect with their own in some way. Where he will appear next after Marvel Legacy #1 is currently unknown.
