Much of the future of Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe is currently up in the air as there are various films on the docket but many are lacking release dates, directors, scripts or other aspects that would get them closer to becoming a reality. For one of those films, the future seems to be a little bit clearer.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has looked within to at last find a director for their Suicide Squad sequel as they have reportedly tapped director Gavin O’Connor to helm the anti-hero/villain focused film. O’Connor recently directed the Ben Affleck led film The Accountant for the studio and is working on a sequel to that film as well.
Once O’Connor signs the final paperwork it will cement some stability for the project that has been seeking a director since the original came out and previous director David Ayer chose to move to the Harley Quinn focused Gotham City Sirens, which is also in a nebulous spot with the studio.
Previously there were reports of everyone from Mel Gibson to The Shallows director Jaume Collet-Serra who reportedly was no longer an option once he chose to take on the director role for the Dwayne Johnson starring Disney film Jungle Cruise.
All that is known about the sequel is that Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) and Jared Leto (Joker) are reportedly set to return for the sequel.
Currently there is no release date for Suicide Squad 2.
