Millennium Films & Lionsgate’s Hellboy reboot might have recently lost a cast member, but they are still forging ahead and bringing more folks no board.
The Vampire Diaries & Hemlock Grove actress Penelope Mitchell has joined the cast of the Neil Marshall directed reboot, according to Deadline. Mitchell, also set to star alongside Nick Cage in the upcoming film Between Two Worlds, will star as an elder witch named Ganeida who is working to stop Nimue/The Blood Queen (Milla Jovovich) from enacting her wrath upon the world.
This casting comes just days after Ed Skrein publicly announced he was departing the film because the character he was playing, Major Ben Daimio, is a Japanese-American character in the comics. Concerns about whitewashing came soon after Skrein was cast, and the actor was widely praised on the internet for his choosing to step down to allow for better representation.
Mitchell joins a cast that features David Harbour as Hellboy, Ian McShaen as Professor Broom, Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan and Jovovich as the Blood Queen. Hellboy is expected to release sometime in 2018.
