An unidentified stunt person was killed on the set of Fox’s Deadpool 2, according to Vancouver Police. The police statement said that a female stunt driver died on set following an accident during a scene featuring a motorcycle stunt.
According to Global News, during the stunt something went wrong that sent the stunt driver’s motorcycle airborne before she crashed through the glass of the ground floor of the Shaw Tower. Based on reports the stunt went correct four times before the rider lost control on the fifth attempt.
Reportedly she was placed in the back of an advance life support ambulance that remained on scene for 45 minutes before departing without lights or sirens engaged. Shortly after the police confirmed she had passed away from her injuries.
The stunt driver’s name has not been released.
A Fox spokesperson released a statement following the tragic accident: “We are deeply saddened by the accident that occurred on the set of Deadpool 2 this morning. Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time.”
An investigation into the accident is currently underway by WorkSafeBC and the British Columbia coroner’s office. Filming has been shut down for the rest of the day.
