With the start of filming rapidly approaching, Lionsgate’s Hellboy reboot has found it’s main antagonist. While the film might have recently dropped Rise of the Blood Queen out of it’s title, the film will still feature the characters as the villain and Milla Jovovich is reportedly in final talks to play that role, according to Deadline.
Jovavich has experience in the sci-fi/supernatural world as she’s just fresh off concluding her long-running role as the lead of the Resident Evil films.
The Neil Marshall directed film would pair her up with David Harbour (Stranger Things) who will be taking on the role of the red-skinned hero and Ian McShane (American Gods) who is taking on the role of Hellboy’s adoptive father Professor Broom, roles originally held by Ron Perlman & John Hurt respectively in the previous Hellboy films.
Hellboy creator Mike Mignola worked on a script for the film alongside Andrew Cosby and Christopher Golden and now Aron Coleite is working on the latest draft of that script.
Filming begins in September and will take place in the UK and Bulgaria. There is no news on an intended release date but with filming starting so soon it’s likely shooting for a 2018 or early 2019 release.
