When it comes to the recent Hollywood adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, there were a lot of things that were pointed out to be wrong with the film from fans of the source material and non-fans alike. The massive issue of continued Hollywood whitewashing was one of the major issues, but it was not alone.
The latest Screen Junkies’ Honest Trailer dives into all the issues with the film summing it all up with: “Hollywood is running out of stuff from the 80’s and 90’s to remake, now they’re remaking a film they’ve already been ripping off for decades, but with controversial casting, a dumbed down plot, just enough recreated scenes from the Anime to put in the trailers and a complete lack of understanding of what made the franchise popular to begin with.”
So while this film might have been just another in the long list of failed Hollywood adaptations, at least it allowed the folks at Screen Junkies a chance to turn their usual humor loose upon the film. That’s something at least.
