While there is still a lot that seems to be a secret or up in the air about the still untitled Han Solo movie, the guiding hand behind the film’s score is now known.
As revealed on StarWars.com, composer John Powell will be the one handling the score for the second of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars anthology spinoff films. Powell’s musical resume includes work on the Matt Damon Bourne series, How to Train Your Dragon and it’s sequel, Kung Fu Panda and it’s sequel as well as Shrek.
The composer will just be the second person that isn’t John Williams to score a Star Wars film, after Michael Giacchino stepped in to handle the score for 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Ron Howard is directing the new anthology film after previous directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller parted ways with the project because of creative differences with the studio. The untitled Han Solo film stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Joonas Suotamo picking up the role of Chewbacca, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
It opens on May 25, 2018.
