Fans who were hoping to see Carol Danvers, the hero known as Captain Marvel, in a Marvel Studios film before her solo Captain Marvel movie arrives in 2019 shouldn’t hold their breath.
While basically ever Marvel Studios hero around will be showing up in next year’s Avengers: Infinity War Captain Marvel won’t be one of those, according to ComicBook.com. The film’s co-director Joe Russo spoke to the website after Marvel’s panel in Hall H during San Diego Comic con and said that she won’t be part of that film.
“She’s not in Avengers 3,” Russo said.
That third Avengers film just finished filming recently but the still untitled fourth Avengers film will kick off production pretty much right away, within the next few weeks. Russo said that Carol isn’t in the third film, but that doesn’t mean she can’t show up in that fourth film.
Avengers 4 comes out two months after Captain Marvel debuts in March 2019, so it would be fitting to include her in the film after audiences would have just watched her origin film.
Captain Marvel is reportedly going to take place in the 90s, with it being unclear if the whole film will be in that decade or just a portion of it, with a two-eyed Nick Fury and the shape-shifting alien Skrulls as the villains.
Avengers: Infinity War opens on May 4, 2018.
