SDCC: Jeff Lemire returns to DC Comics with Fantastic Four like The Terrifics

Dark Matter

Earlier this year, following the conclusion of his two-year exclusive contract, Jeff Lemire announced his departure from Marvel Comics. The writer hasn’t gone far though as it was announced during San Diego Comic Con that he is making his return to DC Comics this fall.

As part of the Dark Matter imprint that spins out of the Dark Knights: Metal event, Lemire will be writing a brand new series called The Terrifics starring Mr. Terrific, Plastic Man, Phantom Girl and Metamorpho.

If the pairing of a stretching man, scientist, an invisible woman and a large brute that has been changed physically sounds familiar, there is a reason. Lemire said his goal with the title is to ” recapture the feeling of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s Fantastic Four,” according to Newsarama.

Scott Snyder, the writer of the Dark Knights: Metal, described Dark Matter as “if Frazetta and Jack Kirby had a baby to a heavy metal soundtrack, Metal is that event. Battle armor, dinosaurs, robots. It’s really meant to be a celebration of comics and is a thank you to you the fans, honestly. We’re going all out.”

Lemire’s new series as well as the new series Brimstone will join the previously announced Dark Matter titles The Silencer, Challengers of the UnknownSidewaysImmortal Men and Damage.

The Terrifics is set to arrive in 2018.
