The battle between human piloted giant robots, known as Jaegers, and giant monsters, known as Kaijus, is about to start again. After numerous delays the sequel to 2013’s Pacific Rim is set to arrive in early 2018 and Legendary Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for Pacific Rim: Uprising.
While the teaser doesn’t really share any scenes or information about the film, it does fully show off the new generation of Jaegers that will be featured in the film, after the last remaining Jaegers were all but wiped out in the first film, and ends with a shot of John Boyega’s character calling for people to join the Jaeger program.
A brand new site for the film has been released as well, GoJager.com, which offers information on the new Jaegers and confirms that the film takes place a decade after the events of the first film. Since the breach was sealed in the original film there haven’t been any Kaiju attacks, but the Pan Pacific Defense Corps has fully restarted and stocked up the Jaeger program as a global defense force prepared for a day when the Kaiju’s might return.
Directed by former Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight, with Guillermo del Toro moving to a producer role, Pacific Rim: Uprising stars Boyega, Rinko Kikuchi,Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny and Jian Tian opens on February 23, 2018.
