While fans will have to wait for Christmas Day to find out what will happen to Peter Capaldi’s 12th incarnation of the Doctor, they won’t have to wait that long to find out who will be replacing him in the eleventh series of Doctor Who next year.
The official Doctor Who Twitter account released a new video that teases the reveal of the 13th Doctor coming on Sunday, July 16 after the Men’s Wimbelton Finals.
Capaldi announced at the start of the year that the recently wrapped tenth series of the long-running science fiction series would be his last, after playing the Doctor for almost four years. Alongside the announced departure of showrunner Steven Moffat that came last year and the seeming departure of the new series 10 companion Bill (Pearl Mackie), the series looks to be getting a chance for a complete overhaul as it moves into series 11.
Broachchurch showrunner and Doctor Who writer Chris Chibnall will be taking over as the new series showrunner and was the one tasked with choosing whoever will be the 13th regeneration of the Doctor.
Capaldi and Moffat’s tenure on the series will conclude with the Doctor Who Christmas Special in December.
