Nintendo announces games, price & release date for SNES Classic Edition

SNES Classic Edition

Last year Nintendo really hit the nostalgia button when they announced the $59.99 mini NES Classic Edition that came packed with 30 original NES games on board. They were quite popular & hard to find during the holiday season, then became very difficult to find when Nintendo officially discontinued production earlier this year.

Now it’s time for them to hit the 90s gaming nostalgia button.

Nintendo has now officially announced the arrival of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition in September. The mini version of the system that launched in 1991 will come with only 21 games but will have a retail price of $79.99.

One of those games will Star Fox 2, the never-before-released sequel to the original Star Fox game.  The game list includes:

  • Contra III: The Alien Wars™
  • Donkey Kong Country™
  • EarthBound™
  • Final Fantasy III
  • F-ZERO™
  • Kirby™ Super Star
  • Kirby’s Dream Course™
  • The Legend of Zelda™: A Link to the Past™
  • Mega Man® X
  • Secret of Mana
  • Star Fox™
  • Star Fox™ 2
  • Street Fighter® II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
  • Super Castlevania IV™
  • Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts®
  • Super Mario Kart™
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars™
  • Super Mario World™
  • Super Metroid™
  • Super Punch-Out!! ™
  • Yoshi’s Island™

Included with the system is one HDMI cable, one USB charging cable with AC adapter and two SNES classic controllers for playing of multiplayer games like Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting and Super Mario Kart.

Get ready to pre-order or hunt a version down in case they are just as hard to find as the NES version. The SNES Classic Edition arrives on September 29.
