This fall Marvel Comics is bringing a lot of changes to their publishing line with the Marvel Legacy imitative, including the return of legacy numbering on many long-running titles, and now they are teasing a pretty big announcement tied to Legacy coming on Friday June 23.
An announcement they say fans have “been longing for” and that “changes the comic book industry.”
“A new initiative that will take things back to our iconic history, with a firm eye on the future, Marvel Legacy will present stories that remind everyone — newcomers and longtime fans alike — why Marvel stands as the premier name in fiction,” said Editor in Chief Axel Alonso. “Our titles will unearth gems from Marvel’s rich history, remind readers of connections between characters, and usher in the return of some major characters who’ve been missed. Above all else, we want to inject our comics with a massive dose of fun!”
A new image shared with the press release features stalwart Marvel characters like Captain America (Steve Rogers), Thor (Odinson), Iron Man (Tony Stark), Captain Marvel, Spider-Man (Peter Parker), Black Widow and others alongside younger or legacy characters like Captain America (Sam Wilson), the time-displaced Cyclops, Wolverine (Laura Kinney), Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes), Spider-Man (Miles Morales) and many more.
An interesting thing to note is that Steve, Odinson and Tony are all wearing very classic looking versions of their costumes in this image and many of the other Marvel Legacy images.
Major returns is one of the teasers that has been part of all the Marvel Legacy marketing, especially for the Marvel Legacy #1 issue that kicks it all off.
Previously Alonso teased the possible return of the Fantastic Four through an image of Ben Grimm/Thing but with a number 2 on his belt buckle instead of a 4. The Fantastic Four is one of the things many fans are expecting to return during this initiative.
Marvel Legacy #1 arrives on September 27.
