The CW adds Muslim-American hero for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow season three

Legends Isis

The crew of the Waverider is expanding once more, this time one from the future instead of the past.

Tala Ashe is joining the cast this fall as a series regular in the role of Zari Adrianna Tomaz, according to Variety.

Tomaz is a Muslim-American woman from 2030, a year where technology has brought great changes but prejudice, fear & a lack of care for the planet have continued to thrive which causes her to become a “grey hat hacktivist.” Zari is described as “a computer nerd with a wry, combative attitude” and as a woman that is living a double life who doesn’t know that she has latent powers that come from an ancient & mystical source.

Just like the other characters on the show, Tomaz has roots in the comics. Before DC Comics had it’s 2011 reboot Adrianna Tomaz was a citizen that fought against government corruption in Black Adam’s country of Kahndaq, but eventually she gained powers and became the hero Isis and married Black Adam.

With the current events of the world it’s likely that if Tomaz takes on a superhero persona it won’t be using the name Isis.

Previously producers spoke about how the time travelling nature of the show allowed it to easily bring in new crew members each season, to replace any that they move on from. Currently there is no word if any of the cast from season two will not be back for the new season but it’s likely that big announcements will not come till San Diego Comic Con next month.
