Sony’s Black Cat & Silver Sable film gains a director and a name

Silver Sable

Sony seems to be moving full speed ahead with their slate of films focused on Spider-Man related villains/allies. Just a few days after announcing a star and director for their Venom project, the studio has reportedly found the guiding hand for their Silver Sable and Black Cat film.

According to The Hollywood ReporterThe Secret Life of Bees writer & director Gina Prince-Bythewood will tackle the Spider-Man ally team-up film which apparently is now officially being called Silver and Black.

Comic book & Thor: Ragnarok writer Chris Yost worked on the most recent draft of the film with Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy having worked on the script previously. Reportedly the studio is aiming to begin production on the film this fall.

Both Silver Sable/Silver Sablinova, a mercenary and leader of the country Skymarkia, & Black Cat/Felicia Hardy, a thief with bad luck causing powers, have been antagonists and allies to Spider-Man over the years, with Black Cat even having a long-term relationship with Spidey/Peter Parker in the past. Felicia was previously cut from scripts in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy of films and had a minor part in 2014’s Amazing Spider-Man 2 played by Felicity Jones.

Currently there is no word of any possible casting.

While Spider-Man is getting another reboot this summer with the Sony & Marvel collaboration Spider-Man: Homecoming, these films featuring characters from Spidey’s world won’t be connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in any way.

The Tom Hardy starring and Ruben Fleischer directed Venom is currently already moving forward and will arrive on October 5, 2018. Silver and Black has no reported release date.
