When it comes to finding voice artists for Disney XD’s DuckTales reboot, which launches later this year, the house of mouse isn’t messing around.
Adding to their already stacked list that includes the likes of David Tennant, Bobby Moynihan & Kate Micucci, they have signed award winning actor, playwright and composer Lin-Manual Miranda to the cast.
Miranda, known for his work on Broadway’s Hamilton and Disney’s Moana among other things, will take on the role of fan-favorite character Gizmoduck, the hero of Duckburg whose true identity is Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera, a brilliant intern working for Scrooge McDuck’s (David Tennant) personal mad scientist Gyro Gearloose.
“Lin came to mind instantly for the role of Gizmoduck,” said executive producer Matt Youngberg. “His rapid-fire earnestness paired with his wide-eyed yet determined optimism made him the perfect person to yell ‘BLATHERING BLATHERSKITE!’”
Miranda, a noted lifelong fan of DuckTales, will have a recurring role on the series.
“Growing up as a Cuban-American comics enthusiast, I was always hungry for a Latino hero to call my own,” said Co-producer and story editor Francisco Angones. “In developing the new series, Matt and I leapt at the opportunity to adapt ‘DuckTales” marquee hero into a young scientist character with Latin-inspired roots.”
Already renewed for a second season, the rebooted series, produced by Disney Television Animation, follows the adventures of Scrooge McDuck his curious and mischief-making grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, the temperamental Donald Duck and their trusty team, Webby Vanderquack, Launchpad McQuack and Mrs. Beakley, embark on high-flying adventures around the world.
The series is set to debut this summer.
DuckTales voice cast includes David Tennant as Scrooge McDuck, Danny Pudi as Huey, Ben Schwartz as Dewey, and Bobby Moynihan as Louie, Kate Micucci as Webby Vanderquack, Beck Bennett as Launchpad McQuack and Toks Olagundoye as Mrs. Beakley.
