While the dates for when fans will finally get to see Star Trek: Discovery are unknown, last we heard it’s sometime in the fall, there is room to get excited at the first official cast image from the series. Shared by Entertainment Weekly, the new image features series lead Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham and Michelle Yeoh as Captain Philippa Georgiou.
Most of the series is being filmed in Toronto, but this image features the two actors in Jordan which is standing in for a unknown alien planet.
It’s been known for quite some time that the series is set in a period that is ten years before Captain Kirk, Spock, Doctor McCoy and the rest begin their first five-year mission on the Enterprise. The image just fully confirms the characters are in that era by the flip communicator and other older style Star Trek tech featured on Burnham’s belt.
Star Trek: Discovery also stars Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca, Doug Jones as science officer Saru, Anthony Rapp as science officer Stamets, Terry Serpico as Starfleet Admiral Anderson, Maulik Pancholoy as Chief Medical Officer Nambue, Sam Vartholomeos as junior Starfleet officer Connor, Mary Wiseman as Starfleet Academy Cadet Tilly, and James Frain as Ambassador Sarek among others.
When the series debuts it will air exclusively on the CBS All Access streaming application in the U.S. and through Netflix in the rest of the world.
