Marvel expands Secret Empire with another issue in August

Secret Empire new issue

In what is becoming a repeated move with Marvel Comics event series, the publisher has announced that their current Secret Empire series will add an extra issue in August. Originally solicited as a nine issue story with a special starting #0 issue and the FCBD story, the Captain America/Hydra story will add a tenth issue to finish out the story this summer.

“Nick [Spencer] has constructed each issue of Secret Empire so that it ends with a climactic twist or a big reveal or a shocking development, and issue #9 is no exception,” said SVP & Executive Editor, Tom Brevoort. “So moving into the finale, with issue #10, the heroes across the Marvel Universe will be pushed to the breaking point as we race to the exhilarating climax we’ve been planning for months. Oh, and let me say again: we’re not going to use the Cosmic Cube to simply reverse everything away—the stakes matter, maybe more than they ever have before.”

As previously mentioned, this is the third time that Marvel has announced a surprise extra issue for an event following last year’s Civil War II and 2015’s Secret Wars.

Previously it was mentioned that the logo on the covers with Captain America’s shield and the Hydra symbol would change to match the progress of the series and on this new cover it is blurred out and marked classified.

With Secret Empire #8 and #9 coming out in August this new issue would make three issues of the series coming out in the month.
