Warner Bros./DC Entertainment’s new focus on prequel stories of their big time heroes will continue in 2018. SyFy has officially announced that the long-talked about Krypton pilot, focusing on Superman’s grandfather, has been ordered to series.
Along with the announcement comes the first official photo from the series.
Krypton: Set two generations before Superman ever heads to Earth, Krypton follows Kal-El’s grandfather (played by Cameron Cuffe) — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos. The series comes from producers David Goyer (the Dark Knight trilogy) and Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow). Along with Cuffe, the show stars Georgina Campbell (Broadchurch), Elliot Cowan (Da Vinci’s Demons), Ann Ogbomo (World War Z), Rasmus Hardiker (Your Highness), Wallis Day (Will), Aaron Pierre (Tennison) and Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones).
SyFy also released a tweet that features some familiar items as well as revealing the series will debut some time in 2018.
While there seems to still be speculation that the series could be tied into the DCEU’s Man of Steel, it’s far more likely that the show will be just like Fox’s Gotham. A stand alone exploring the history leading up to the character everyone knows with no connections to the other media offerings.
