Fox’s New Mutants adds Maisie Williams & Anya Taylor-Joy as Wolfsbane & Magik

New Mutants

At long last Fox’s latest X-Men related film is really starting to come together. The Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) directed New Mutants cast is now taking shape.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the long repeated rumors of Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) and Anya Taylor-Joy (Split) joining the young mutants focused X-Men spinoff film are now true as both have officially been cast in the film.

Just as the various rumors from last year stated, Williams will be playing the Scottish Rahne Sincliar/Wolfsbane who is “a girl struggling to reconcile her religious beliefs with her power to turn into a wolf” while Taylor-Joy will be playing Illyana Rasputin/Magik who is “a girl who has learned sorcery and uses teleportation discs to travel.” Magik is also the sister of Colossus who has appeared in the various X-Men films previously and recently in Deadpool.

While there is no further casting news, the film will also star the characters Danielle Moonstar/Mirage, Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, Sam Guthrie/Cannonball and the alien Warlock.

Currently there is no word on if this film will find a way to somehow fit into the decade hopping continuity of the X-Men films or if it will be like Deadpool and completely stand alone in it’s own continuity space. With previous rumored reports stating that James McAvoy’s Xavier might factor into the film it’s hard to say where it will all stand in the end.

Reportedly the film will begin filming in July so that it can meet the recently announced April 13, 2018 release date.
