If Fox’s cinematic adventures of Wade Wilson/Deadpool aren’t enough for fans, there’s some good news for next year.
A Deadpool animated series created by Donald Glover and his brother Stephen Glover has been ordered straight to series for FXX, the sibling channel to FX, according to Variety. The 10-episode first season will debut sometime in 2018.
Donald and Stephen already have a relationship with FX/Fox through the Golden Globe winning Atlanta, which Donald created, stars in and writes and Stephen works as a writer. The brothers will serve as showrunners, writers and executive producers on Deadpool.
Just like with Legion the untitled Deadpool series will be a collaboration between Marvel and Fox/FX. This series will be produced by Marvel Television in association with FX Productions and ABC Signature Studios, with Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory aboard as executive producers.
“How much more fun could this be? Deadpool, Donald and FX – the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth,” Loeb said. “We’re thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with ‘Legion’ continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation.”
There is no word currently on any voice actors or other details on the series, but it’s worth nothing that Donald has experience in the past with voice acting including providing the voice for Mile Morales on Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man series. He’s also slated to appear in an unknown role in this summer’s Sony/Marvel collaboration Spider-Man: Homecoming, adding to his growing ties to Marvel in his resume.
The popularity of Deadpool got a boost last year when Fox’s Deadpool film hit almost $800 million at the worldwide box office. A sequel to that film is currently in the works & is slated to debut on June 1, 2018.
In a bit of funny small world connections, the Glovers aren’t the only ties to Atlanta for Deadpool now. Atlanta actress Zazie Beetz was cast earlier this year to appear as the probability altering mutant Domino in Deadpool 2.
